petition report – ‘every mother must get the help she needs’

Last week the Royal College of Midwives launched a new report entitled; Every mother must get the help they need.

The report details the analysis conducted on the 6898 comments left on the petition launched by Lucie Holland following the death of her sister to perinatal mental illness.

This petition went viral with thousands of signatures, and many people left heartfelt comments about their own experiences, which have been collated in the report and demonstrate the power of feeling and effect perinatal mental illness is having on individuals and families across the UK.

The report was launched and discussed at a Perinatal Mental Health roundtable event hosted by the RCM in London on July 19th.  It was well attended and included representatives from the RCM, Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists, Royal College of GPs, Unite the Union, Institute of Health Visiting, the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, the NCT, Best Beginnings,  Mumsnet, Health Education England, NHS England, the British Medical Association, midwives, health visitors, academics, GPs, experts by experience and many others.
